FOI Oklahoma: OU is not above the law
OKLAHOMA CITY — Andy Moore, executive director of Freedom of Information Oklahoma, released the following statement in response to the University of Oklahoma’s comments regarding the lawsuit filed by NonDoc:
“The University of Oklahoma has neither the responsibility nor the right to determine what is in the public’s interest. In fact, the University has a long and well-documented history of ignoring the Open Records and Open Meetings Act in order to hide their actions from public view. Rather than acting like they are above the law, the University should uphold their ethical and legal obligation to transparency in their operations."
NonDoc filed a lawsuit against the University Oklahoma on June 10, 2021 asking the court to order the University to release copies of reports from the Jones Day law firm concerning misreporting of donor data and allegations of sexual misconduct by former university president David Boren. The University claims the documents are exempt from the state’s Open Records Act.
