Retired Tulsa teacher pledges to support open government if elected to House seat

A former Tulsa math teacher has promised “to support legislation to strengthen the letter and the spirit” of Oklahoma’s open government laws if elected to the state House District 75 seat. In signing FOI Oklahoma’s Open Government Pledge for legislative candidates, Karen Gaddis also promised “to support at every opportunity” the state’s public policy that “the people are vested with the inherent right to know and be fully informed about their government so that they can efficiently and intelligently exercise their inherent political power.”

The Democrat's 40-year career in Tulsa Public Schools included teaching math for 25 years and being a senior counselor at Memorial High School. She was a three-time finalist for Tulsa Teacher of the Year, according to her campaign website.

Gaddis will face Republican incumbent Dan Kirby in the Nov. 8 general election.

District 75 includes part of eastern Tulsa and northern Broken Arrow.

FOI Oklahoma invites all candidates for state, local and legislative seats to sign its Open Government Pledge. Instructions and lists of signers can be found on FOI Oklahoma’s website.
